DU 2024-25 Academic Calendar for First-Year Students
There is no denying that the CUET results came in pretty late this time, slowing down the entire admission process and thus also delaying the classes of the first-year students. However, the wait is finally over as the results have been released, and students are ready to attend the classes that their respective colleges will hold.
The DU calendar for the first and second semesters is out now, revealing the journey of both semesters from the commencement of classes to their conclusion. Let’s delve deeper into the academic calendar for both semesters so that we can guide our freshman brothers and sisters.

The academic calendar of both semesters showcases the following events:
Commencement of classes
Mid-Semester break
Date of continuation of classes
Preparation and practical examination
Theory exams
Break until the next semester
First Semester
The first semester will commence on August 29, 2024. The timetable for classes will soon be uploaded either to your class group or any freshmen-guiding WhatsApp group that you might have joined. You don’t need to arrange all the required books from day one. Instead, just attend classes with a notebook and pen to jot down any important points your teacher brings up. Later, you can decide which books are worth buying and which ones you don’t need to study for exams.
The mid-semester break will start on October 27 and end on November 3. There isn’t anything crucial happening during this period, so you can sit back and relax during this short break.
Classes will resume on November 4, 2024. It’s time to leave your comfort zone and progress in your college life. Regular classes will continue and will demand more attention than before due to the approaching examinations. Try to find some time to revise what you studied at college, or you may find it challenging to learn everything together during the few days before the exam.
Practical examinations and their preparations will begin on December 24. While preparing for your practicals, start preparing for the theory exams too, as they will follow soon after. Many subject practicals are closely related to the theory exams, so if you do well in the practicals, it will be easier to prepare for the theory exams. The difficulty of each practical will depend on the teacher conducting it, as well as the number of days you are granted to prepare for it.
Theory exams will begin on January 6, 2025. Hopefully, you have been paying attention in your classes so far because these exams are very important. Do not take them lightly— even the smartest students can fail if they aren’t careful. Poor performance in the first semester examinations will directly affect your overall performance in the first year of college. Any failed theory exam will need to be cleared later.
After the examinations, winter break will start on January 25, 2025. You all deserve a break after studying hard and completing your exams.
Second Semester
The second semester’s classes will commence on January 27, 2025. The mid-semester break will start on March 9 and last until March 16, 2025. Classes will resume on March 17, 2025.
Practical examinations and their preparations will start on May 25, 2025. Theory exams will begin on June 7, 2025. After the examinations, summer break will start on June 29 and will last until July 20, 2025. This break will be much longer than your winter break, giving you more time to relax and focus on activities besides studies.
During this period, go on trips with your family or friends, play video games, or do anything your heart desires. It’s suggested that you join a course to learn skills important for jobs, such as coding or communication development. You can even join an internship during this time to gain some work experience. It’s your break, so enjoy it and make the most of it in your own way.
