“Arise! Awake! And stop not until the goal is reached” is the motto of the Janki Devi Memorial College. Janki Devi Memorial College; one of the prominent colleges of Delhi University, is an off-campus college. The top 10 colleges of Delhi University are Hindu College, Miranda House, Shri Ram College of Commerce, St Stephen's College, lady Shri Ram College, Gargi College, Kirori Mal College, Hansraj College, and Indraprastha College for Women. JDMC was founded by the famous Gandhian- Shri Brij Krishan Chandiwala in 1959 in the memory of his mother, Smt. Janki Devi. In recognition of the changing global scenario, the college has changed its priorities and perspectives, which are reflected in the syllabi and curricula.
Janki Devi Memorial College, one of the prestigious colleges of Delhi University, is located in Central Delhi, about 5 km from Connaught Place and a few steps away from Karol Bagh Metro Station. It is a college where professors are very friendly and treat each child like family. The college campus provides an aesthetic backdrop rich with greenery. Various fruits like orange, jackfruit, guava, amla, etc. can be found in the garden of the college. This college not only focuses on providing a good education but also on the wholesome development of the individual by organizing multiple college programs that give the individual a chance to showcase their talent.

Janki Devi Memorial College offers many dual degrees, integrated courses, undergraduate degrees, postgraduate degrees, and doctoral courses in various specializations such as arts, commerce, Sanskrit, Hindi, science, etc.
Good placement opportunities are provided to the students. More than 50% of students got placed in the various top recruiting companies, including Wipro, Deloitte, and IBM. The placement cell is active. The average salary package offered ranges from 4 LPA to 8 LPA. Internships are offered at companies like Zomato, Amazon, Flipkart, Mamaearth, etc.
The college library is the place for all the academic activities happening in the college. It is a cluster of the library staff, reading material, and readers. The college library gives us access to 25 laptops and separate reading areas for both students and faculty members. The JDMC library is a panel for various institutions, like the students of B.Lib. of Jamia Islamia College and the students of the vocational center at JDMC. The JDMC Library also has a Women's Studies Resource Centre. The Annual Library Festival of the Janki Devi Memorial is held every year where along with curriculum books, competition-level books, and motivational books can also be found.
JDMC was overall ranked by NIRF as 151 out of 200 colleges in India in 2023. This is the first college of Delhi University, which is A+ NAAC accredited. The college has won several awards, such as the Green Campus Award, the Best Managed College of the Year Award, and the Girl-Centric Tertiary Education and Training Award from WAGE. In the last garden show of the university, the college bagged eight prizes, including the Rolling Trophy and the Jagrani Memorial Cup! The college is widely known for its practices regarding the safety and improvement of the environment. These activities are rainwater harvesting, solar panelling, herbal gardens, mechanized composting, paper recycling, e-waste management, and the development of eco-zones on campus.
The ramps, the Braille sections of the library, the tactile on the floors, and the elevator are some of the ways how the physically challenged are assisted. Economically unstable girls are assisted with fee concessions and scholarships. The college does not only focus in terms of intellectual and physical enhancement, but the institution is very concerned about the emotional well-being of the students, too. With this vision, JDMC has counselling services of various kinds provided to the students with a visit along with an on-call counsellor. In addition to this, workshops are conducted by the counselling agencies.
The Janki Devi Memorial College has many societies, such as Etihad Society- the debating society, the Women Development Cell, Placement Cell, Avani Society- the environment society Anubhuti Society, (Hindi Debating Society) NCC (National Cadet Corps). Enrolment in such societies offers various benefits to the students. The students in the NCC cadets are exempted from the written exam of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and can get a direct interview with SSB. Hence, it is quite a tough competition in the selection of the NCC cadet candidates. NSS aims to work with different NGOs and go on field visits to provide aid to the poor. This society gives a huge exposure to an individual. The Women Development Cell works for the empowerment of women in all fields and gives them equal privileges and opportunities as compared to men. All societies give huge experience and opportunity to the individual. Choosing a society depends on personal interests.

All sides of the campus are surrounded by green plants providing a peaceful environment where all students can have a good time. All the professors are friendly and always make sure to help anyone in need. We work like a family where we all contribute equally. One common thing that every girl agrees on is that we all need a proper photoshoot to update our profiles from time to time, am I right? Well, my ladies, worry not! This college has a perfect spot that fulfills your desire for those beautiful photos you require to post on your socials. Another thing that we all wish for is good food to fill up our tummy. The canteen of the college offers you all your favorite dishes like dosa, cheese sandwiches, pizza, momos and all you need. And that too, at a very affordable rate. Moreover, you also get discounts during the fest of our college. Now that’s like a cherry on the cake!
JDMC Fest waives the flag for the start of the much-awaited fest season for all students across DU. This means, all the Delhi University fests commence after JDMC’s fest! (So cool, no?) The JDMC Fest lasts for 3 days where the last day is a rock show, which is obviously the highlight of the whole fest. Singers and Bands are called and the whole crowd of the college goes gaga and cazy!!
Places Near JDMC To Hangout
Since Janki Devi Memorial College is located in the central part of Delhi, the college has easy access to markets in Karol Bagh Market and Connaught Place. Both places offer a variety of shops for all your shopping needs- at affordable prices; along with multiple food joints so your stomach is not screaming at you for some delicious food. YUM! The closest metro to reach CP is Rajiv Chowk whereas Karol Bagh market is just a ‘10-rupee-fare-rickshaw’ away! In case you need some blessings before your exams, the famous Hanuman Mandir and Akshardham temple are also in close proximity to the college. Central Park, Sunder Nursery, and Buddha Jayanti Park are also some of our favorite ‘go-to’ spots to chill at.
Cafes like Zero Degree, Chai Sutta Bar, Guliyano Cafe, Cafe 61, etc. are where we go when we are in the mood for luxury and fun!

As a student of Janki Devi Memorial College, I can proudly say that this place is not just a college; it is a lamp of knowledge where we not only learn about different subjects but also get much-needed exposure to different societal explorations and visits and get to interact with many different people. Recently, the college has signed MOUS with the Samarkand State Institute of Economics and Service and Oriental University in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to promote faculty and student exchange, among other initiatives. As mentioned earlier, our professors are our guiding light and are extremely cooperative and helpful. The whole institution treats each other as members of a family; everyone contributing to the growth of our college.
